Rajganj, 02nd January: Panic has gripped the Angadgach area of Sannyasikata Gram Panchayat in Rajganj block following repeated leopard sightings. Since Thursday evening, residents are too scared to step outside, and work in local tea gardens has been temporarily suspended for safety reasons.
According to local sources, a woman went to tie her goat in the fields yesterday afternoon when a leopard allegedly attacked her goat. The woman, along with another person, claimed to have seen the leopard at the site.
Upon receiving information, Rajganj police and forest officials from the Amabari range visited the area to assess the situation. However, no traps have yet been set to capture the leopard. Residents have demanded immediate measures to safely trap the animal.
Sudeep Das, manager of a local tea garden, said the goat attack occurred yesterday afternoon. He added that on Friday morning, workers reportedly heard a tiger-like roar, prompting the suspension of work until the situation is deemed safe.
Local Gram Panchayat member Anup Kumar Roy confirmed the incident and said fear continues to prevail among residents. Authorities have been informed, and the forest department is considering deploying a trap to capture the leopard.
