Siliguri, 06th February: The Left Front organized a sit-in protest at Hasmi Chowk in Siliguri against the SIR process. The protest was attended by Left leaders including Ashok Bhattacharya, Saman Pathak, along with party workers and supporters.
During the protest, Ashok Bhattacharya sharply criticized the Election Commission, alleging that it is depriving people of their constitutional right to vote. He claimed that under the influence of the central BJP government, the Election Commission is no longer functioning as an impartial constitutional body but has instead been turned into a political institution.
Bhattacharya further alleged that millions of people have been deprived of their constitutional rights and questioned why such incidents are happening only in West Bengal. He cautioned that if the situation does not change soon, the Left Front will escalate its movement with larger protests in the future.
