Kharibari, 20th February: Police in Kharibari foiled an Assam-bound buffalo trafficking attempt, rescuing 10 buffaloes before they could be transported. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the case.
According to police sources, the operation took place near the Thanjhora Tea Estate area in Kharibari, where two pickup vans carrying the buffaloes were intercepted and seized. The arrested individuals, Mohammad Afzal and Nazrul Ansari, are residents of Naxalbari.
The buffaloes were reportedly brought from Bihar and were being trafficked towards Assam. As the drivers could not produce valid documents for the animals, both pickup vans were confiscated.
The arrested accused were produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Friday. Kharibari Police have launched a full investigation into the case to identify any wider trafficking network.
