Karatoya River erosion threatens Gokulvita village roads in Ambari, residents in fear

Rajganj, 23rd July: The roads of Gokulvita village in Ambari are at risk due to the ongoing erosion caused by the Karatoya River, leaving residents in a state of fear. Gokulvita, located in Binnaguri Gram Panchayat in Rajganj, is home to many families and tea garden workers. Each year, the river’s erosion worsens, and residents are concerned that without the construction of a protective dam, their village and several bighas of tea plantations could be devastated.

Villagers report that the erosion has already claimed much of their land, particularly during the monsoon season, when the road to the village is heavily impacted by the water. Travel on this road has become perilous, and vehicle access has been restricted. The issue has been brought to the attention of the Gram Panchayat Pradhan.

Samijuddin Ahmed, Pradhan of Binnaguri Gram Panchayat, confirmed that he visited the affected area after receiving reports of the erosion. He added that he has forwarded the matter to higher authorities and assured residents that measures will be taken to ensure safe movement for the community.
