Job fraud-linked trafficking: Program coordinator and another arrested in Siliguri

Siliguri, 24th July: Two more arrests have been made in connection with the suspected trafficking of 56 young women under the pretext of job placement. Siliguri GRP has arrested the program coordinator of the implicated institute, Birendra Pratap Singh, along with Manoj Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh.


Birendra Pratap Singh claimed that the centre, located in Thakur Nagar and offering hotel management training, had been operating with valid documents since 2022. The institute was reportedly run from a rented property at ₹2 lakh, where 56 women had been enrolled in a hotel management course and were being taken to Bengaluru for jobs in an e-scooter company.

Earlier, on Monday, the GRP rescued the women from NJP station and arrested two individuals, Jitendra Kumar and Chandrima Kar. A raid was conducted at the training centre with Jitendra Kumar on Wednesday, where several documents and details were recovered.


Following this, Birendra Pratap Singh and Manoj Kumar were arrested. All accused were produced in court, and a six-day remand was granted to the GRP.
