Jewelry and valuables stolen from Jalpaiguri Devi Chowdhurani Kali Mandir

Jalpaiguri, 12th June: Sensation prevailed after an incident of theft took place in the Jalpaiguri Devi Chowdhurani Kali Mandir.


The matter came to light when the priest Subhash Chowdhury visited the temple, this morning, and found the iron gate broken. The incident was immediately reported to the police, who reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.

Priest Subhash Chowdhury stated that upon examination, it was discovered that two donation boxes kept inside the temple were broken and some amount of cash was also missing. Besides, the thieves had also fled away with precious silver ornaments and other valuables from the temple.
The priest further alleged that similar incidents have also occurred in the past and despite reporting the issues to the administration several times, no security measures were taken for the safety of the temple.


Debashish Sarkar, Secretary of the temple committee, further stated that the temple reopened recently after a prolonged period due to the COVID-19 lockdown. He further stated that the temple committee will once again approach the administration with a demand to arrange proper security to prevent thefts in the future.
