Siliguri, 25th June: A major theft has once again rocked Siliguri, with jewellery worth nearly ₹8 lakh reported stolen from a residence in the Sukanta Pally area under New Jalpaiguri police station limits late Tuesday night.
According to reports, thieves allegedly broke into the house of Sunil Kumar Singh while he and his family were inside. The family discovered the theft only on Wednesday morning when they woke up to find the locker broken, valuables missing, and household items scattered.
Sunil Kumar Singh claimed that he did not hear or sense anything during the night and suspects that some form of spray may have been used to render them unconscious. It is suspected that the theft was pre-planned.
Following the incident, police from NJP police station reached the spot and began investigations. CCTV footage from the nearby area is being collected and reviewed.
The incident has triggered panic among local residents, who are demanding swift police action and strict punishment for those involved.
