Jalpaiguri Municipality steps up to help 3-year-old and his ailing mother

Jalpaiguri, 28th August: After the news of 3-year-old taking care of his ailing mother in Jalpaiguri was broadcasted in media, a commotion was created all over North Bengal including Jalpaiguri district.

As the news spread like wildfire, Jalpaiguri Municipality stepped up to help the helpless mother. Saikat Chatterjee, a member of the BoA of Jalpaiguri Municipality, rushed to the police station after receiving the news. He interacted with the woman and arranged a Bhawan in the Jalpaiguri Municipality area for her food and lodging.

The woman’s husband has been held responsible for the entire event. In this context, Chatterjee stated that the woman has been roaming around in the streets for the last one year and six months. Search for her husband has already commenced. Strict legal action will be taken against the accused soon.

It is to recall that Rekha Sarkar, along with her 3-year-old son was sighted outside Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police Station. They had taken shelter in the police station since Wednesday night. The Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police provided food to the duo.

Apparently, Rekha used to work as a domestic helper but unfortunately lost her job due to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, she has been living in a severe crisis and is unable to feed her son. The duo has been spending sleepless nights in different government offices for many days.

Spending several days with a hungry stomach, Rekha fell sick and sat down outside Jalpaiguri Kotwali police station. Meanwhile, seeing his mother’s helpless situation, the child took off his shirt, soaked it in water from the side faucet, and placed it on his mother’s forehead to lower her high temperature. The gesture caught the attention of many passers-by and eventually of the administration.
