Jalpaiguri, 21st August: In a horrifying incident, a man attacked his wife with a hammer after a conflict broke out between the two, on Thursday night. The incident surfaced from the Dangapara area of Kharia Gram Panchayat under Jalpaiguri Sadar Block. The deceased has been identified as Ankhi Biswas (27).
Based on the complaint lodged on behalf of the victim’s family, the Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police arrested the accused husband.
According to local sources, tension over several issues had been hovering over Gautam Biswas and his wife Ankhi Biswas from the past several days. Allegedly, last night too, in the course of a conflict, the furious Gautam hit Ankhi’s head with a hammer, following which she lied unconscious for a long time.
The incident was later informed to the Jalpaiguri Kotwali Police by the locals. The police reached the spot shortly after and rushed Ankhi to Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital in a severely injured condition, where the doctors declared her dead.
Meanwhile, during police interrogation, the accused Gautam Biswas claimed that his wife had an illicit affair with another man.
On the other hand, the deceased’s father Birendra Das alleged that Gautam often used to torture Ankhi to demand money from him. Birendra demanded stern punishment for the accused.
