Jalpaiguri, 28th November: The Jalpaiguri Special POCSO Court has sentenced accused Bidur Pradhan to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor after luring her with sweets. The judge also imposed a fine of ₹50,000 and directed that the family receive financial assistance of ₹5 lakh.
The incident occurred in February this year. The minor, a student of standard VII, lived with her grandmother. On the day of the incident, she was standing outside her house when a man from the locality lured her to an abandoned house under the pretext of giving her sweets and raped her.
Locals noticed the matter and immediately informed the police, who reached the spot and arrested the accused.
A complaint was later filed by the family, and the case went to court. Based on the testimony of eight witnesses and other evidence, the judge delivered the verdict.
