Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench new building to be inaugurated on January 17, Siliguri Mayor reviews preparations

Jalpaiguri, 15th January: The newly constructed building of the Calcutta High Court’s Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench is set to be inaugurated on January 17. Ahead of the inauguration, the building has been illuminated with decorative lights, while final preparations are underway.


Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb visited the site to review the arrangements and assess the preparedness for the upcoming inauguration. He was accompanied by Jalpaiguri Municipality Chairman Saikat Chatterjee. They inspected the infrastructure, security arrangements, and other logistical aspects of the new complex.

According to official sources, the inauguration ceremony is expected to be attended by the Chief Justice of India.


Speaking during the visit, Mayor Gautam Deb said the establishment of the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench fulfils a long-standing demand of the people of North Bengal. He added that the state government had allocated Rs 501 crore for the construction of the Circuit Bench building. The initiative was taken by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure that litigants from North Bengal no longer have to travel to Kolkata for judicial matters.
