Siliguri, 11th May: The Special Operation Group (SOG) of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with Bhakti Nagar Police Station, has successfully uncovered an illicit betting operation operating under the guise of a grocery store in Shivarampally area of Haiderpara. The betting ring was masterminded by two brothers who cleverly concealed their activities within the grocery shop. Promptly responding to the tip-off, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police station conducted a joint operation resulting in the arrest of Basudev Saha (43), one of the prime accused involved in the illegal operation.
Investigations reveal that both Basudev Saha and his brother meticulously organized the IPL betting network. Acting swiftly upon receiving the information, the SOG, in conjunction with the Bhakti Nagar police station, launched an operation yesterday evening. During the raid, Basudev Saha was apprehended, and a significant amount of cash along with multiple mobile phones were seized as evidence. However, his brother managed to evade capture. Today, the accused was presented before the Jalpaiguri court.
According to sources, it has been discovered that Basudev Saha and his brother were placing bets worth lakhs of rupees on various aspects of the IPL matches, such as team victories, individual player performances, and bowling statistics, under the facade of their grocery store. It has also come to light that online betting platforms were used to facilitate these transactions. An investigation is now underway to identify any other individuals involved in this illicit betting racket.
