Bagdogra, 23rd October: Bagdogra police foiled a drug-smuggling attempt and arrested two youths who were trying to smuggle brown sugar from Kaliachak in Malda to Siliguri during the festive season.
According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, officers from Bagdogra police station intercepted two suspicious individuals near the Muni Tea Estate on the Kolkata-Siliguri National Highway. Upon searching them, police recovered 277 grams of brown sugar and arrested both on the spot.
The accused have been identified as Israel Haque and Wasi Ahamed, both residents of Kaliachak in Malda district. Preliminary investigation suggests they had brought the consignment from Kaliachak to deliver it in Siliguri.
Police have registered a case against them under the NDPS Act. Both will be produced before the Siliguri sub-divisional court on Friday.
