Increased rainfall boosts fish availability in Fulbari’s Mahananda Barrage

Fulbari, 22nd June: Continuous rainfall over the past several days has led to a rise in water levels in the Mahananda Barrage, significantly increasing the availability of various river fish.

The shops in front of the Fulbari Mahananda Barrage are now stocked with fish such as Boroli, Nadiali, Tangra, and Rui. Buyers are arriving from different locations to purchase these fish.

Fisherman Manik Sarkar reported a noticeable increase in fish availability, attributing it to the recent rains. He mentioned that a variety of fish, including Boroli, Nadiali, Rui, and Katal, are now plentiful in the river. Prices for these fish range from Rs 150 to Rs 300. However, despite the abundance, the number of buyers remains relatively low.

A buyer from Siliguri shared his experience, stating that this was his first visit to the barrage for purchasing fish. He noted the good quality of the river fish and expressed satisfaction with the availability, which has been boosted by the rainfall.
