Illegal timber seized near Rongtong, two arrested

Siliguri, 05th June: Acting on intelligence inputs, a major operation was carried out early Thursday morning by Deepak Rasaily, Range Officer of Mahanda Wildlife Sanctuary. During the operation, a Siliguri-bound vehicle was intercepted on NH-55 near Rongtong railway station.


Reportedly, a large quantity of illegal teak and sal timber was recovered from the vehicle. Two individuals, identified as Bishal Rai (41) and Sailen Rai (36), were arrested on the spot. The vehicle used in the offence was also seized.

Both accused were produced before the ACJM Court and have been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is underway.
