Siliguri, 30th October: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police took swift action to curb the use of illegal firecrackers during the Kali Puja festivities. A significant amount of banned firecrackers was seized during a raid in the Nepali Basti of NJP. This led to the arrest of a businessman, Jhantu Pal, a resident of Surya Sen Colony in Ward No. 34 of Siliguri.
Acting on a tip-off, the officers from NJP police station conducted the operation on Tuesday evening. Authorities recovered illegal firecrackers worth lakhs from Jhantu Pal’s possession and subsequently arrested him.
The arrested individual was presented in the Jalpaiguri court on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
