Hundreds of pigeons rescued from truck loaded with rice in Siliguri; two apprehended

Siliguri, 28th October: Police rescued hundreds of pigeons packed in sacks from a truck loaded with rice during a search operation. Two youths, identified as Mohammad Firodos and Akhtar Hossain, were apprehended in connection with the incident.


Reported, the NJP police station conducted a search operation in Fulbari when they noticed suspicious movement of sacks on a cargo truck. Upon stopping and searching the vehicle, officers discovered a significant number of pigeons concealed within six large sacks.

When questioned, the two youths revealed that they were transporting the pigeons from Karandighi. They were arrested for violating government laws by bringing the pigeons without a livestock permit. Following this, NJP police informed the forest department, and personnel from the Dabgram forest department quickly arrived at the scene. The pigeons and the arrested individuals were handed over to the forest department.


According to sources, the apprehended individuals will be interrogated, and further action will be determined accordingly.
