Siliguri, 18th December: Police seized a large quantity of banned cough syrup from a transport corporation’s parcel van in Siliguri on Thursday and arrested two persons in connection with the case. The arrested accused have been identified as the vehicle driver Kanai Sil and the transport company manager Shubhankar Das.
As per reports, acting on a tip-off from a confidential source, police intercepted the parcel van in the Uttar Ektiasal area and conducted a thorough search. During the inspection, a substantial consignment of prohibited cough syrup was recovered from inside the vehicle.
According to police sources, the market value of the seized cough syrup runs into several lakh rupees. Preliminary investigations are underway to ascertain the source of the consignment and its intended destination.
The operation was carried out by personnel of Ashighar Outpost, who have initiated a detailed probe into the matter. The two arrested accused will be produced before the Jalpaiguri court on Friday.
