Siliguri, 26th July: A major breakthrough has been made in the recent ATM robbery case in Siliguri. An organized gang from Nuh district in Haryana allegedly carried out the ₹14 lakh robbery using a lorry. Four days after the incident, a joint operation by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police’s SOG, Bhakti Nagar Police Station, and Ashighar Outpost led to the arrest of one accused from Bihar.
The arrested accused, identified as Ujer Khan, is a resident of Haryana and the lorry driver involved in the crime. He was brought to Siliguri and produced in the Jalpaiguri court on Saturday. A part of the stolen money has been recovered from his possession.
As per police sources, three gang members transported gas cylinders in a lorry from Haryana to Siliguri, while two others arrived by train. Around dawn on Tuesday, the five accused used a gas cutter to break open an ATM in the Ashighar area and fled with ₹14 lakh in cash.
While scanning CCTV footage from various parts of Siliguri, police spotted a suspicious lorry. With help from the vehicle number and confidential inputs, the SOG located and arrested the driver hiding in Bihar.
All five suspects involved in the robbery have been identified, and police expect more arrests soon. Investigation is ongoing.
