Haldia LPG cylinder factory on the verge of closure, workers protest

Siliguri, 08th May: With the rising possibility of closure of the Haldia gas cylinder factory of Siliguri, factory workers are constantly staging protests.

According to the information, the factory, which is about 30 years old, has more than 200 permanent and temporary employees. Earlier, the factory owner had issued notices several times hinting closure of the factory. Once again the owner management has issued the same notice.

Reportedly, the owner has decided to close the factory as the demand for gas cylinders is low and is currently going under huge loss. If the factory closes, more than 200 workers will be unemployed. In view of this, the workers of the factory expressed their anger by protesting on the factory premises. Labour leaders demanded that the factory be kept open as before.
