Kalimpong, 09th April: After North Bengal’s first positive case of novel coronavirus emerged from Kalimpong, GTA Chairman Anit Thapa is keeping a close eye on the district which is likely to become a COVID-19 hotspot.
A new Quarantine Centre was set up within 5 days at CMOH Quarter premises near Kalimpong Hospital, on Wednesday. The GTA has established four fully operated quarantine centers so far. These 4 quarantine centers have the necessary equipment to monitor the patient.
Thapa stated that the main problem may start after the lockdown when people from all around the state will return to their homes. And tracking them will be difficult. If not properly managed, the chances of infection in the hills will increase.
“I have spoken to the Chief Secretary on this subject. To solve this problem we are building a high level team of specialist, experienced people. The team will advise the administration on which method to track and scan,” Thapa assured.
As of now, 46 people have been kept in the Quarantine Centres at Disha and Marwari Bhawan of Kalimpong and over 200 people are in self-quarantine.
According to sources, another Quarantine Centre is being prepared at Kalimpong’s Lower Bong Busty area.
