Cooch Behar, 29th August: The General Secretary of Greater Cooch Behar People’s Association (GCPA) and Chairman of Rajbanshi Bhasha Academy, Banshi Badan Barman has demanded an apology from the Chief Minister for an alleged remark made from the stage of the TMCP’s foundation day meeting on Monday.
On Tuesday, during a press conference, Banshi Badan Barman claimed that the CM had made wrong remarks about the Rajbanshi community which saddened them. He added that the Chief Minister has initiated several developments including a language academy for the Rajbanshis, however, a wrong statement is not welcomed. Furthermore, he stated that, if the need arises, he would quit the position of chairman of Rajbanshi Bhasha Academy and protest against it.
It has to be noted that on the occasion of TMCP’s foundation day, CM Mamata Banerjee allegedly stated that one hand of her’s is Hindu, the other hand is Muslim, one eye is Punjabi, another eye is Christian and one leg is Rajbanshi. Following the remark, Banshi Badan Barman demanded an apology.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Partha Pratim Roy stated that the CM’s statement was misunderstood. He added that he would personally speak to Banshi Badan Barman to clarify the matter.
