Grand procession taken out in Siliguri by TMC for Durga Puja getting recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site

Siliguri, 22nd August: UNSECO has declared and added the grand festival of Bengal’s Durga Puja to their World Heritage Site. To celebrate the happy moment a grand procession was taken out by Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress in Siliguri today.


The procession was taken out from Baghajatin Park in Siliguri lighting up the whole city with the beat of its 50 drums, the sound of ulu-dhwani, and conch shells. Pictures of immersion from Mahalaya were showcased through tableau. The procession was circumambulated through various streets in the city. During this, members of all the puja committees of the city and members of voluntary organizations were present.


Also, in this procession, Siliguri Mayor Goutam Deb, Deputy Mayor Ranjan Sarkar, Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress meeting leader Papia Ghosh, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad President Arun Ghosh, and all district leaders and public representatives attended. 

In this regard, Darjeeling District Trinamool Congress meeting leader Papiya Ghosh said that Durga Puja is a pride among the people of Bengal. It is a great honour to be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, thus calling for a celebration of this day is a must and should be done in a special way.
