Siliguri, 26th June: A gold chain snatching incident triggered panic in the Buddha Mandir Road area of Gital Para, Ward No. 40 of Siliguri, on Wednesday evening. Two unidentified youths on a motorcycle reportedly snatched a gold chain from a woman’s neck and fled the scene.
According to sources, the woman was sitting outside her shop as usual when the duo approached her on a bike. One of them called out to her on the pretext of saying something, and then suddenly snatched the chain before speeding away.
Following the incident, Bhakti Nagar police reached the spot and began a detailed investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify the accused.
The woman informed the police that the stolen gold chain weighed approximately 18 grams and is estimated to be worth around ₹2 lakh.
Police suspect that the culprits may have been monitoring the area and the woman’s routine before executing the theft. The investigation is currently underway.
