Four peddlers arrested in Siliguri with 20 kg powder, 820 gm brown sugar and acid bottles

Siliguri, 21st December: In a major operation, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Bhakti Nagar police in Siliguri arrested four drug peddlers and recovered 20 kilograms of plain powder, 820 grams of brown sugar, two bottles of acid, and two bottles of liquid.


The arrested have been identified as Ajit Ray (24) of Jalpaiguri, Saeedul Sheikh (48) of Malda, and Vinay Kumar (22) and Tasruddin (25) from Bihar.

According to police sources, acting on a tip-off, the SOG and Bhakti Nagar police conducted a special operation under the Salugara four-lane elevated flyover. Four suspects were apprehended based on suspicious activity.


During the search, Tasruddin was found with 15 kilograms of plain powder, Ajit Ray with 5 kilograms of plain powder along with two bottles of acid and two bottles of liquid, Vinay Kumar with 200 grams of brown sugar, and Saeedul Sheikh with 620 grams of brown sugar and cash.

Police officials explained that the seized plain powder is used in the production of brown sugar. By mixing the powder with acid and liquid, narcotic substances are prepared. The estimated market value of the seized substances is approximately ₹1 crore.

The Bhakti Nagar police have produced all four accused before the Jalpaiguri court. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members involved in the trafficking gang.
