Siliguri, 21st April: Former Left representatives submitted a memorandum to the municipal officer stating that the government should take over two private hospitals in Siliguri and reopen them as COVID hospitals, and further demanded to reactivate the testing centres.
Former Left representatives said that with the second wave of COVID-19, people are getting infected every day and the number of deaths is also increasing. They added that despite the alarming situation in Siliguri, people seem ignorant toward the COVID-19 protocols.
They further said that due to lack of government medical services, the COVID-19 positives are risking their lives by isolating in home quarintine. As of now, only North Bengal Medical College and Hospital is treating COVID-19 patients of the city. Therefore, the government should open two private hospitals in Siliguri as COVID hospitals.
