Siliguri, 25th June: Several resorts built in the Baikunthapur Forest under the Dabgram Range, adjacent to Siliguri, have come under scrutiny following multiple complaints of environmental disruption. Acting swiftly, the forest department has initiated strict action against the accused establishments.
According to reports, the resorts have been allegedly dumping garbage into the forest, playing loud music at night, and using high-power lights, all of which are disturbing the forest ecosystem and affecting wildlife.
Responding to the complaints, forest personnel have started patrolling and monitoring various areas. The Dabgram Range has also issued notices to all resorts operating in the region.
Ranger Raj Kumar Pal confirmed that wild animals are facing threats after consuming garbage discarded by the resorts. He warned that if such activities continue, strict legal measures will be enforced. Additionally, he advised resort authorities to restrict tourist movement during nighttime hours.
Environmental activists have welcomed the department’s proactive steps to protect the fragile forest environment.
