Food Safety Department conducts inspection drive in Siliguri, issues warnings and seizes LPG cylinders

Siliguri, 05th June: The Food Safety Department, along with officials from Bhakti Nagar Police Station, Ashighar Outpost, the Enforcement Branch, and the Fire Department, launched a coordinated inspection drive across Siliguri on Thursday. The campaign was carried out from Baneswar More to Ashighar More along the Eastern Bypass.


During the drive, inspections were conducted at various hotels, restaurants, sweet shops, and fast food outlets. At one sweet shop, sweets were found stored in the open and cleanliness standards were reportedly poor. A notice was issued against the shop, and action has been ordered.

Officials also found the use of harmful food colours in several eateries, prompting immediate warnings and a ban on such substances. Additionally, three domestic LPG cylinders were found being used illegally at a hotel in Ashighar More and were seized on the spot.


The Food Safety Department has instructed all food outlets to ensure hygiene and serve fresh, quality food. Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against violators. The Darjeeling District Food Safety Department confirmed that such inspection campaigns will continue in the coming days.
