Alipurduar, 19th June: Alipurduar is facing an imminent flood threat due to the incessant rains in the mountains of Bhutan. The water levels of several rivers, including Kaljani, Dima, Raidak, Torsha, and Sankosh, are steadily increasing. The rising river water has already entered the wards located along the river banks in Alipurduar Municipality.
Several houses in Dwipchar, Hotahat Colony, and Balatari areas of ward no. 9 and ward no. 18 have been submerged. The bamboo bridge connecting Alipurduar town to Balatari has also collapsed, further adding to the difficulties faced by the locals.
The situation remains critical as the threat of worsening floods persists if the rains continue to intensify in Bhutan. However, the municipal administration has assured the public that they are fully prepared to tackle the impending flood situation.
