Siliguri, 21st October: A fireworks fair has commenced at Kawakhali ground in Siliguri ahead of Diwali. The fair was inaugurated in the presence of Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Jalpaiguri Dhiman Barui, Chairman of Sara Bangla Atasbazi Unnayan Samiti Babla Roy, and other officials.
This year, the fireworks mela in Kawakhali features 50 stalls. ADM Dhiman Barui and Babla Roy inspected the stalls, ensuring that only green firecrackers are being sold. Fireworks fairs are being held throughout the state, with an increase in the number of fairs compared to last year.
Babla Roy, Chairman of the Sara Bangla Atasbazi Unnayan Samiti noted that 72 fairs are taking place across the state this year. Fireworks have now been classified as an industry, and government grants will be provided to businesses in this sector. He states that comprehensive security arrangements have been made for the fair, with green firecrackers arriving in West Bengal from various parts of India. He added that the government has allocated ₹1.98 crore for this initiative.
