Rajganj, 24th February: On Saturday afternoon, locals spotted a massive fire in Madhuparna Tea Estate adjacent to Hathi More in Rajganj along the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri National Highway (NH). Significantly, several trees in the tea estate were reduced to ashes.
Reportedly, the matter was informed to the cops of the Rajganj police station as well as the fire department. Upon receiving the news, a fire engine from Fulbari arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control after half an hour of relentless efforts.
In this regard, the locals stated that the reason behind the fire was yet to be ascertained. However, they added that youths from nearby areas gathered there to smoke beedi and cigarettes. It is speculated that the fire in the tea estate was caused by the droppings of beedi-cigarettes.
Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, a member of the Labour Union Debabrata Nag arrived at the spot and stated that several trees were destroyed. He added that the incident might have been caused by the compost of beedi-cigarettes.
