Siliguri, 04th December: Panic gripped the area near the IOC gate in Siliguri on Thursday after an oil tanker standing on the roadside caught fire. Swift action by IOC personnel prevented the situation from turning into a major mishap.
According to sources, the blaze erupted after the tanker’s tyre suddenly burst. On noticing the flames, IOC staff immediately used in-house firefighting equipment to contain the fire, while the fire department was alerted without delay.
Even before fire engines reached the spot, the flames were largely brought under control. Firefighters later ensured complete extinguishing of the fire. Prompt intervention by IOC workers played a crucial role in preventing further escalation.
The fire department and police have jointly launched an investigation into the incident.
