Naxalbari, 24th February: Several seized motorcycles were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out inside the premises of Naxalbari Police Station on Tuesday.
According to sources, the fire started among multiple confiscated motorcycles kept at the rear side of the police station and spread rapidly within moments. Police personnel and local residents initially attempted to douse the flames before a fire engine from Naxalbari Fire Station reached the spot. The blaze was brought under control after nearly 30 minutes of effort.
Several impounded motorcycles were completely destroyed in the incident, triggering panic in the area. Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.
Notably, a school and a hospital are located on either side of the police station. Naxalbari Gram Panchayat Deputy Pradhan Biswajit Ghosh stated that prompt action helped avert a major disaster.
