Maynaguri, 02nd January: Panic spread in Maynaguri market after a major fire broke out, damaging at least ten shops. The incident created tension across the market area.
According to preliminary information, at least ten shops were affected in the fire. A short circuit is being suspected as the possible cause of the blaze.
Local residents first noticed flames in a sweet shop at the market where multiple gas cylinders were stored. Within moments, the fire intensified and spread rapidly to adjacent shops, triggering panic among traders and residents.
On receiving information, local residents initially attempted to control the fire. Later, several fire engines reached the spot and, after prolonged efforts, managed to bring the blaze under control. Traders said that the fire caused heavy losses, with a large quantity of goods destroyed.
No casualties have been reported so far. The fire department and Maynaguri police have started an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
