Siliguri, 21st February: A recklessly driven car struck a youth on Sevoke Road in Siliguri, killing him instantly. The incident occurred around 12:30 am on Thursday when the victim, identified as Shankar Chhetri, and a young woman were walking along the road near the Panitanki Outpost. The impact threw both some distance off the road, leaving Chhetri dead and the woman in critical condition.
Following the publication of CCTV footage by Siliguri Times, police officials, including DCP (Traffic) Quazi Samsuddin Ahamed, visited the site on Saturday. The vehicle and driver remain unidentified, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from other areas of the city to trace the car.
The two-day delay in visiting the site has raised questions among locals about the police response. The traffic DCP confirmed that a widespread search operation for the vehicle is ongoing.
