Siliguri, 24th February: Tension gripped the Siliguri court premises as family members of the deceased staged a protest when the arrested accused in the Sevoke Road hit-and-run case was produced before the court.
The accused, Debanshu Pal Chowdhury, was arrested on Monday by Siliguri Police in connection with the fatal hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Shankar Chhetri. He was brought to court under tight security on Tuesday.
As he was being produced, the victim’s family members and relatives demonstrated outside the court, raising slogans demanding strict punishment for the accused.
The deceased’s sister broke down in tears at the court premises and sought justice for her brother, demanding the harshest punishment. The family also urged the administration to ensure that the accused does not exploit any legal loopholes and called for stringent action.
