Siliguri, 23rd December: A couple and their son were assaulted by their neighbors after protesting against stone-pelting in their locality. The incident took place on Sunday night in Michael Madhusudan Colony, adjacent to Ambika Nagar.
According to reports, local resident Dinesh Barman went to his rooftop on Sunday night when two of his neighbors threw stones at his house. Upon confronting them, the two, along with their family members, attacked him with sharp weapons. In addition to this, Dinesh, his wife Kripa, and son Binoy were brutally beaten, and their house was vandalized. Later, Dinesh locked himself and his family inside the house and informed the police. The police immediately arrived and rushed them to the hospital.
On Monday morning, Dinesh Barman filed a written complaint at the NJP police station naming six individuals. While addressing the media, Dinesh confirmed that they had a long-standing dispute with the neighbors over the boundary wall of his house. He added that they have been receiving several death threats from their neighbors. On Sunday night, when he protested against the stone-pelting the family attacked him and his family.
The police have launched an investigation into the entire incident.
