Falakata Durga Puja prep begins with customary rituals in Ambari

Rajganj, 15th July: The auspicious “Falakata Puja” was recently held in Ambari with great enthusiasm, following the customary rituals. This annual event also marked the commencement of paddy plantation in the region. This significant event takes place annually during the traditional month of Ashadh, which typically falls in June-July according to the standard calendar. The locals of the area actively participate in the festivities, creating three idols named Raja Falakata, Tulakata, and Dhankata for worship. The history and stories surrounding these idols vary, adding an air of mystique to the occasion.

According to the members of the puja committee, their ancestral knowledge reveals that the location was once encompassed by a dense forest several centuries ago, inhabited by formidable creatures, including tigers. The revered goddess Chaudhurani was believed to have performed the Falakata Puja in the same area. The temple itself features numerous idols representing various gods and goddesses, in addition to the three primary idols mentioned earlier. The worshippers pay homage to King Falakata before commencing the paddy plantation in the Ashadh month.

Devotees from far and wide, not only from Rajganj Block but also from neighboring regions, gather to offer their prayers during this auspicious occasion. Many visitors make fervent wishes, and if their desires are fulfilled, they express their gratitude by offering various items during the following year’s puja. The Falakata Puja continues to be a cherished tradition that unites the community in Ambari and upholds the cultural heritage of the region.
