Panighata, 17th June: Sensation prevailed after a wild elephant entered the Nirpani-Magartol area near Panighata on Wednesday morning. An atmosphere of panic was witnessed among the locals following the incident.
According to the information received, the elephant was spotted roaming in the area, this morning. The wild animal also destroyed crops.
It is to recall that a few days ago, Kamal Tamang, a resident of the aforementioned area, was severely injured in an elephant attack. He is currently undergoing treatment at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.
The locals alleged that despite the increasing number of elephant attacks in the area, no steps have been taken on behalf of the forest department so far. The locals approached the forest department in this regard and demanded proper safety for them.
