Jalpaiguri, 21st March: Eight shops were burnt to ashes in a major fire that broke out in the Dhantala bazaar area of Kranti block under Mal sub-division late, on Sunday night.
It has been learned that the locals initially noticed black smoke at around 2 am last night and reported the incident to the Kranti outpost police. Upon receiving the news, two fire engines rushed to the spot from Maynaguri and another engine from Malbazar. Locals and fire brigade workers extinguished the fire after several hours of effort.
However, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
