Siliguri, 05th November: E-rickshaw (Toto) drivers in Siliguri staged a protest on Tuesday by halting their vehicles, expressing their discontent over route stickers introduced by traffic authorities. The drivers stopped their totos at Mahatma Gandhi More (Air View) to demand the removal of the stickers, which have segregated Totos into four colour-coded routes since before Durga Puja.
Earlier, in an attempt to streamline routes, traffic police had assigned green, yellow, blue, and purple stickers to totos, with each color indicating a specific route. However, drivers with green stickers, designated for routes from Siliguri Junction via Fulbari and Burdwan Road, raised concerns, alleging that they were being diverted from Air View More and prevented from reaching Siliguri Junction.
In response to this restriction, the drivers halted their vehicles at Mahatma Gandhi More, blocking the area in protest. Police from the Panitanki Traffic Guard arrived on the scene to resolve the situation, promising the drivers that discussions would be held on Monday to address their grievances.
