Durga Visarjan: Over 200 idols immersed at various ghats of Siliguri

Siliguri, 25th October: On Tuesday, the idol immersion ceremony of Goddess Durga commenced in Siliguri and continued till the following morning at various river ghats of the city. Notably, a maximum number of the idols were immersed at Lal Mohan Moulik Niranjan Ghat. During this, a large crowd of people arrived to witness the Visarjan.


As per reports, about 262 idols were immersed on Tuesday at Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat, including idols from various clubs as well as Durga Pujas organized in private residences. In addition, about 31 idols were immersed at Parvati Ghat located in Baghajatin Colony of Champasari and the immersion of idols continued on both ghats on Wednesday.

In efforts to avert mishaps, a large contingent of police and civil defense personnel were stationed at Lal Mohan Maulik Niranjan Ghat this year. Notably, a rope was attached to the ghat so that the people could observe the idol immersion from a specified safe distance. Meanwhile, the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has initiated cleaning the river following the immersion to avoid water pollution.
