Siliguri, 08th January: A reckless car driver allegedly under the influence of alcohol narrowly avoided a major accident on Wednesday night near the Milan More area in Siliguri. The speeding car, bearing a Bihar registration number, collided one by one with several vehicles parked along the roadside. Fortunately, no pedestrians were nearby at the time, preventing any casualties.
Local residents reported that both the driver and passengers were reportedly intoxicated and driving at high speed. After losing control, the car first hit a parked vehicle on the roadside and then struck another four-wheeler parked in front of a restaurant. The second collision was so severe that the vehicle was completely damaged. The car subsequently crashed into an electric pole, causing extensive damage to itself as well.
The loud crashes drew nearby residents to the scene, who reacted angrily and surrounded the car, staging a protest. Police from Pradhan Nagar Police Station, Siliguri Metropolitan Police, arrived promptly. The driver and three passengers were taken into custody, and the involved vehicles along with the damaged cars were seized.
Residents alleged that a newly developed picnic spot in the Milan More area attracts visitors who openly consume alcohol, leading to such dangerous incidents on the return journey. They demanded strict traffic monitoring and enforcement in the area to prevent future accidents.
Given the tense situation, additional police forces were deployed to control the scene. Police have launched a formal investigation into the incident. Fortunately, no one was reported injured in the accident.
