Kharibari, 12th February: Kharibari police arrested four people in two separate operations in a single night over drug trafficking incidents. On Wednesday night, a Nepalese drug peddler, identified as Rohit Rai, was caught trying to smuggle drugs via the Mechi River in Dangibasti along the Indo-Nepal border in Kharibari. Police recovered 102 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
Reportedly, Rohit Rai, a resident of Bhadrapur, Nepal, was apprehended while returning to India after collecting drugs from Nepal. Five days earlier, another Nepalese drug peddler had been arrested at the same location.
In a separate operation, three youths, identified as Bir Bahadur Chhetri, Ashish Chhetri, and Rajkumar Rai, from Rangpo, Sikkim, were caught on the Panitanki state road while attempting to bring drugs from Sikkim. Police recovered 257 grams of brown sugar from their possession after noticing inconsistencies in their statements during questioning.
