Drug trade run under guise of tea stall busted in Kharibari, one arrested

Kharibari, 06th January: Kharibari police arrested a man for allegedly running an illegal drug trade under the cover of a tea stall near the India-Nepal border. The arrest was made during a raid conducted in the Gandogol Jote area under Kharibari police station limits.


During the operation, police recovered 101 grams of brown sugar and 13 bottles of banned cough syrup. The arrested accused has been identified as Nilkantha Barman, a resident of Gandogol Jote in Panitanki.

According to police sources, the accused had been released from jail a few months ago and allegedly resumed drug trafficking soon after his release. He was reportedly operating the illegal trade from a tea stall located along the national highway.


The seized contraband was recovered from inside a box bed at the accused’s residence. Police said the estimated market value of the seized drugs is several lakh rupees.

The accused was arrested on charges related to drug trafficking and produced before the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Tuesday. Further investigation into the case is underway.
