Siliguri, 03rd June: Panic has gripped Siliguri residents due to the ongoing drinking water problem, with no water supply in several areas for the past few days. In response, both CPI(M) and BJP staged protests in front of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Tuesday.
The protest began when BJP councillors of the Municipal Corporation arrived at the SMC premises, followed shortly by CPI(M) councillors. Both parties launched simultaneous demonstrations against the Municipal Board, raising slogans while holding empty buckets and water bottles to highlight the crisis.
Tensions escalated when leaders of both parties attempted to enter the SMC building, but police stopped them at the gate. The protesters were eventually held back and continued their demonstration outside the SMC premises.
