DRI team recovered gold worth crores and Rs 82.50 lakh in cash from Siliguri, three arrested

Siliguri, 11th April: In a significant breakthrough ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Siliguri Unit foiled gold smuggling bid and recovered gold biscuits worth crores. Additionally, Rs 82.50 lakh rupees in cash were also recovered. Significantly, three individuals were arrested in connection to the case.


The arrested accused have been identified as are Bidhu Bhusan Roy (58), Dinesh Parik (45), Manoj Kumar Sinha (44). Bidhu Bhushan Roy is stated to be a resident of Pundibari Bazaar in Cooch Behar, while Dinesh and Manoj are from Kishanganj in Bihar

According to DRI sources, on Wednesday, Bidhu Bhusan Roy had arrived in Siliguri with gold from Cooch Behar intending to deliver it to another individual. Before being smuggled, the DRI Siliguri Unit team apprehended the accused from a bus arriving from Salbari. Following this, the team recovered 12 pieces of gold biscuits and an additional 5 pieces of gold and jewellery.


During the interrogation, Bidhu Bhusan Roy revealed that he arrived in Siliguri to hand over the gold to two individuals awaiting delivery. Following the revelation, the DRI team improvised its strategy and arrested the duo who had arrived in Jalpai More in a Maruti WagonR from Kishanganj in Bihar.

During the search, the DRI team recovered cash amounting to Rs 82.50 lakh from the trunk of the vehicle, which prompted the arrest of Dinesh Parik and Manoj Kumar Sinha. On Thursday, the DRI produced all three accused before the Siliguri court for legal proceedings.
