Siliguri, 22nd October: In a major pre-Diwali operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Siliguri Division uncovered a gold smuggling racket, seizing gold biscuits worth crores and arresting one individual. The arrested accused has been identified as Gaurav Kumar Saha.
Reportedly, acting on a tip-off, DRI officials stopped a suspicious individual on National Highway-27 in Jalpaiguri and recovered 19 gold biscuits weighing 2 kg 215 grams, valued at ₹1.72 crore.
As per DRI sources, the accused, Gaurav Kumar Saha, smuggled the gold from the Bangladesh-India border. On Tuesday, the accused has been presented in court as investigations continue to trace other possible associates.
