DRI arrest youth for smuggling gold biscuits worth Rs. 1.14 crore in Siliguri

Siliguri, 25th November: The DRI once again bagged another success in stopping illegal gold smuggling in the city.


Based on a tip-off, the DRI conducted a secret operation last night and arrested a youth from the Junction area on the charge of smuggling gold. The arrested youth has been identified as Muhammad Faizal who hails from Bihar.

According to the DRI attorney, the team had received information that the youth was conspiring to smuggle gold from the Indo-Myanmar border to Bihar. Following this, the DRI girdled the Tenzing Norgay Bus Terminus at Siliguri Junction and nabbed the smuggler as soon as he was to board a bus to Muzaffarpur in Bihar.


Upon searching, 12 pieces of gold biscuits were recovered from the smuggler Muhammad Faizal’s bag. The estimated value of the seized gold is estimated to be around 1.14 crore rupees. The DRI team today produced accused Faizal in Siliguri court. Judge Fatima Firdosh is hearing the case.
