Siliguri, 17th August: In an exciting development for football enthusiasts, the Dooars Cup Football Tournament is all set to commence on August 24 at the Matelli High School playground. Organized by the Dooars Vision Society, this tournament carries a dual purpose, aiming to provide a platform for talented players while also contributing to social causes.
The organizing committee’s spokesperson revealed that the tournament’s primary objective is to offer a fitting stage for budding football talents to showcase their skills. Furthermore, the event seeks to support mass marriages for the sons and daughters of economically disadvantaged families.
A total of 16 renowned football clubs will participate in the tournament, making it a grand spectacle of talent and competition. The lineup includes clubs not only from the host country but also from neighboring Nepal and Bangladesh, in addition to representations from Sikkim, Siliguri, Kurseong, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling.
Suren Pradhan, the Chief Coordinator and Executive Chairman of KFC, as well as the Secretary General of Sukna Games and Sports Association, shared insights on the committee’s vision. The tournament’s theme of ‘Vocal for Local’ underscores the commitment to highlighting local players and talents, thereby enriching the regional football landscape.
The tournament’s inauguration match is scheduled for August 24, featuring an electrifying face-off between Gorubathan FC and ST Brothers Rangamati.
To add to the excitement, the championship team will be awarded a generous cash prize of Rs 50,000, accompanied by a trophy. Meanwhile, the runners-up will not be left empty-handed, receiving a cash award of Rs 30,000 along with their own trophy. As anticipation builds and football fans eagerly await the tournament’s kickoff, the Dooars Cup Football Tournament is poised not only to deliver thrilling matches but also to make a meaningful impact on local sports development and social welfare.
